3rd WIO Regional Mangrove Training

The WIO Mangrove Network in partnership with KMFRI and IMS, are pleased to announce the ‘3rd regional Training Course on Mangroves of Western Indian Ocean’ that will be held at the Tanga Beach Hotel, Tanzania from 20th -30th May 2019 . The program will promote a regional platform and Community of Practice for academics/researchers, other stakeholders and young professionals in the WIO Region to stimulate knowledge exchange, discussions, and regional cooperation.

Course description

The core curriculum will cover the basic topics on mangrove ecosystems and biodiversity relevant to any mangrove setting. As per the course design, emphasis is on a practical understanding of ecology and biology of mangroves, as well as developing an understanding of practical tools for assessment, management and restoration. This 3rd training course expands on previous units that were covered in 1st and 2nd editions.  Of particular interest is the integration of mangroves and associated blue carbon ecosystems into national development and climate change agenda, including the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals. Similar to the previous two courses, the course will comprise lectures, group discussions, exercises, demonstrations and field visits

The course is jointly implemented by Wetlands International, Save our mangroves Now! Initiative, Global Mangrove Alliance, and Nairobi Convention
